TIPS FOR AN EYE-CATCHING RESUME
One
of TSW’s busiest services is resume writing and
cover letter writing. Now that the school year has started,
many people are looking for new jobs. Below are some
commonly asked questions.
Should
I include a TTY or videophone number on my resume?
This
is an individual choice. If you are applying for a job
in the “hearing” world, then it may be a
difficult decision. On one hand, people may not understand
what TTY or videophone means. They may also realize
that it means you are deaf, and be hesitant to contact
you, even if discrimination is against the law. On the
other hand, it is more honest and sometimes convenient
for you to list a TTY and/or relay number. An alternative
is to include an e-mail address and/or a voice mail
(or video mail) number from your preferred relay service
provider.
What’s
the number one mistake people make on their resumes?
Employers typically take 10-15 seconds to scan a resume.
Yet job-seekers often try to cram too much information
on one page, using too many fonts or reducing the font
size to 9-point or 10-point.
Nowadays,
two pages for your resume is perfectly acceptable. Also
do not use a font size smaller than 12-point. What is
more important than the number of pages is that your
resume is easy to read and clearly states your experience
and skills in an attractive, clean format.
TSW utilizes a number of strategies to make your resume
stand out from other resumes. Contact us today to customize
your resume and cover letter!
DID YOU KNOW? AVERAGE NUMBER OF WORDS AND SENTENCES
Did
you know that the average sentence has 20 to 30 words,
and the average paragraph has between 3 and 6 sentences?
